History....
How could one walk away from this wonderful breed? How could one stay away after being in on the ground floor of AKC recognition and a founding member of USASA, with all the blood, sweat, and tears that went into the process? To have designed the first United States Australian Shepherd Association logo. (There's a new one now!)  To have created and been the first editor of the Australian Shepherd Journal. To have been on the committee to map out the illustrated breed standard which was and is so VERY crucial to the future of the breed. To have written the article "Judging the Australian Shepherd" in the AKC Gazette. To have put on the very first USASA National Specialty...memories are plentiful.  The roots grow deep!!  Some day I will write about many of the experiences, for history’s sake.  I am not sure the new fanciers know the 'full' story how it all began.

After a hiatus...Bouncing Ball is back. I am so very proud to have been instrumental in the beginning years of AKC recognition. It has elevated the Australian Shepherd breed to where it has always deserved to be.  When at the shows, I always have pride at where we have been and where we are now!!

Thank you Linda Wilson, Briarbrook, first of all for your friendship. Your knowledge is extensive and we all owe you a debt of gratitude for the betterment of the breed. I wish to thank Tim Preston, Cobbercrest. When I called Tim, it was as if I had talked to him ‘last week’.  I appreciate Tim's dedication and determination to see the Australian Shepherd recognized by AKC.  It was comprehensive and intensive.  Thank you for your friendship!!  Linda, Tim and I were together through some tough times representing the breed.   Thank you Leon Goetz, Reverie, for your commitment to the breed AND for being my friend and believing in me through it all. When I thought about coming back, I started looking for ‘Bouncing Ball’ bloodlines. I searched and researched. One day I discovered Cedar Hill Aussies. There it was, BOUNCING BALL dogs in their pedigrees. I was so excited!! I called Terry Velnosky and Hope McQueen. Before I knew it, once again, I was hooked.  I have enjoyed getting to know you.  Thank you Sherry Green, Spotlight, for believing in me and ‘returning’ to Bouncing Ball.  Thank you for the 'jump-start'.  I'm having fun 'jumping' back in...   I will always owe a debt of gratitude to David Williams, he showed my dogs all over the country. Words cannot express what your friendship means to me. David was there in the beginning and now look, I’m so proud of you!!

AND, oh how I miss my beloved and dear Friend, Maria Pino, Los Pinos.  Few really knew what she did for our breed.  I can honestly say that WE, ALL OF US, would not be where we are today if it weren't for her diligence, persistence and sacrificial giving of her time and resources.  I don't think we realized we were standing in the presence of 'greatness'.  Thank you and I love you, my eternal friend!!

We celebrate the vision that was ours many years ago and where the journey continues to lead us. Personally, BOUNCING BALL is thankful for our HISTORY!  We are very excited and look forward to the FUTURE!!

Here is a picture of my daughter, Shelley, when she was 11 years old. She is a beautiful Mom now with children of her own (yes, I am a grandmother.) She still loves the breed and has Aussies of her own.  Look for Shelley in the show ring showing her BOUNCING BALL dogs in the near future.  :-)

The legacy continues...
